Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

He smiles just a little when she takes his picture. "That's probably the first picture since...nah, never mind," he laughs. He shakes his head when she says 'picture' and 'number.' He has no clue what she's talking about, but she seems happy so he'll go with it.

Jason glances to Iris. "Are you eating anything? Or saving room for dessert?"

Iris tilts her head slightly as she stealthily sends the pic to Kennedy with an accompanying 'WHY???' caption. "Since what?" she asks, curious but not wanting to push the issue too much.

"Ah..." She realizes she'd been staring a bit and grabs a plate, stuffing it with sweets hurriedly, fighting off a shameful blush. "I zoned out a little, sorry."

"I was arrested?" he answers, a bit awkwardly because now that he's said it out loud, it sounds kinda...bad. "Not for anything bad, just getting into scuffles."

He smiles at her. "Why'd you go and do that? There's awesome food all around us."

"Oh..." She pauses, then a tiny giggle slips out. "Let me guess, you were protecting someone from someone who wanted to hurt them?"

Well. She's certainly not going to say 'because I was staring at you.' "Just a little tired, I guess," she lies, hoping it sticks. "I'll be fine after I eat something."

"A few times? Other times, I was grumpy and someone said the wrong thing," he shrugs. "I had grumpy days."

Jason grabs a few more items from the table and adds them to her plate. "You need to eat food then, not just sweets."

"Wow... I don't think I've ever seen you grumpy," she muses, tilting her head to look at him. "I can't imagine it..."

Iris stares as he adds some more food to her plate. "Sweets are food..."

"It takes a lot," he agrees. "Continuous bad weather is my downfall."

He tilts his head at her, like 'Girl, what would you say to me?' "You need food food, Iris. Nutrition. Especially if you're tired."

"I can see that... I can't imagine being outside all the time when we get a week of rain would be much fun. You should come by my place to hang out when it gets like that," she scolds. "That way your things won't be ruined and you and Alfredo won't catch cold."

She's regretting using that lie now. She's not that hungry, but she can't take it back now. "Okay, okay!" She holds her hands up in mock defeat, her tone turning teasing. "I'll take some real food, mother!"

"It's definitely a bummer when that happens. Which, thankfully, isn't too often." He scratches the back of his head with his free hand. "I'll remember to do that," he promises. At least as time goes, Jason's getting more and more accepting of Iris' offers. He knows he'll be fine out in the weather, but he doesn't want to make her worry over him.

"Good girl," he pinches her cheek lightly before sitting down at one of the tables. He looks around at the other people eating and waits until Iris takes the seat beside him before he leans over. "Do you know most of these people?"

"Good," she smiles, glad he's getting used to accepting her worrying.

She bats his hand away from her cheek, scrunching up her face in distaste before she sits. "Ummm..." A quick look around reveals she has no idea who ninety percent of the people here are and she shrugs. "Not really. I recognize a couple from Lara's club, and I think a lot of them brought their families. Oh! There's Michael!" She gives a quick wave to the man, who waves back before returning to his conversation. "He's the one who Lara got to help me learn the ins and outs of my powers."

"Yeah?" He looks at the man as he waves at Iris and gives him a half-smile. "Sounds like he's pretty helpful. How's the training going, by the way?" He takes a bite of his hamburger, immediately stopping to stare at it like he's in love. It's the best damn burger he's ever had and he almost feels bad about eating it. Almost.

"Pretty good! Lara's getting me to access different parts of my powers. Michael is the test subject," she giggles, taking a bite of her cake. "He likes sirens using their powers on him or something. It's still weird trying to make him do anything other than silly stuff like dancing or hopping on one foot though."

Jason raises his brows at the way she describes Michael. "He's definitely in the right place then," he grins.

"That's what Lara says too," she laughs, nibbling at a cookie on her plate as she frowns at the latest text from Kennedy. She glances down at the shore, where Alfredo's sniffing around the edge of the surf. "Hey... Wanna go swimming once you're done? Lara says I can transform safely here. Apparently she got charms put up so anyone who isn't 'in the know' will just see us normally."

She quietly prays that that didn't come out as awkward and out of place as it seemed. She really didn't need to explain why she was suddenly so eager to swim.
