Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

He dips just a bit, his chin grazing the water before he's swimming properly again, Iris clinging to his back.

"Wow!" he laughs loudly. "You really got me!"

Iris hangs off his back, letting out an irritable huff. "Darn it! I thought that was gonna work..." she grumbles. "I figured if I caught you off guard, you'd go under."

"You gotta put some more muscle on for that," he says, starting to swim around with her still attached. "I mean, A for effort?"

She clings on, amused that he can swim around so easily with her still attached, but also intensely focusing on NOT thinking about the fact that she's touching him right now. "I don't think I have muscle. I'm like, 90% sure it's all skin and bone and a bit of blubber to keep me warm," she laughs in his ear. "I'll have to recruit someone to dunk you for me next time."

"Why are you so intent on dunking me? Here I am, giving you a lift and everything." He's slowly starting to do laps, avoiding the slight urge to go further out. It's getting darker and swimming further out is never a good idea at this time.

"Because you look like you could use a good dunking," she grins, giving into the urge and resting her chin on his shoulder and just letting him carry them around. "But now I'm helping you work out instead. I'm so helpful!"

"You don't think I get enough of that working on a boat?" He slows his swim down, enjoying the feel of the water. "Wow I didn't know I needed a work-out tonight, thanks for looking out for me!"

"Nope. It's not fun on a boat because you don't want to be wet. When you're swimming you don't mind, so it's fun," she smiles.

Iris lets herself slide off his back, dipping under the water and coming up next to him, doing a slow backstroke to keep up. "I'm helpful like that. I wouldn't want you getting chubby from all the food you had at the tables."

"You're going to recruit someone to dunk me so I have fun? Because watching you try to dunk me yourself was pretty fun for me," he smiles.

Jason laughs, glancing at her. She's swimming effortlessly. "I've already put on weight in this town. Damn everyone feeding me."

"I guess I'll just keep trying to dunk you myself then," she grins back. "I doubt it'll get anywhere, but I'll try."

Iris shakes her head. "Good. You should have all of the food. And if I have any say in it, you will."

"Trying is all that matters, right? I mean, I feel like you dunked me, that's how great your try was."

"You provide most of the food. Which I should thank you for, so thank you."

"Do you though? Your hair is barely damp," she laughs, splashing him with a mischevious smile. "I could remedy that."

Iris shrugs, blushing slightly. "I just don't like thinking of my friends being hungry. There's no need for it."

He laughs when she splashes him. "I'm not sure how I'm supposed to take your need to get me wet, here."

"You're a good person," he smiles.

"I'm prepping you to be my meal, since I'm a siren and all," she jokes, smirking. "The salt water tenderizes you so you're not as chewy."

"Stop that!" Iris feels her face heat up as she flaps a hand dismissively.

"I bet I'll be delicious then."

His grin widens. "Nah, I don't think I will."

Like he isn't already, she thinks irritably. "You're okay with sharks joining in, right? I wouldn't want to leave them out of the buffet..."

She ducks down low in the water, glaring at him. "Yes! Stop!"

Jason shrugs. "As long as I'm helping them, I'm cool with it."

"I'll stop when you stop blushing and hiding anytime anyone compliments you.

"I can't!" she whines, tugging her hair down around her face as she pouts. "It's not possible!"

"You're right. I get shy when people compliment me. But I mean everything I say."

[littleredsiren]

A tiny huff of bubbles slips out before she dives under the surface, swimming deep to take a moment to compose herself. Feeling a bit calmer, she swims back up and yanks on his ankle as she goes by, surfacing behind him.

"No more compliments. My face is going to explode from blushing."

He laughs when she surfaces again. "Alright, promise. No more compliments. Tonight."

"Ever!" she huffs. "Don't make me dunk you, mister."

[jasonwright]

"I thought we established that you're really bad at that."

[littleredsiren]

Iris reaches out, gently laying her hands on his shoulders with a wide-eyed, innocent look.

"I am willing to try again," she says, before pushing down on his shoulders with all her weight. Sadly, being the slip of a woman she is, all she succeeds in doing is dipping him very slightly and falling on him as she loses her balance.

He's about to laugh at her sad attempt to dunk him again, but he's caught off guard because she's falling on him and she more or less lands on his shoulder, his hands around her tail to steady her.

"Iris," he states finally. "I'm not sure what you just did."
