Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

"You'll just have to see, won't you?" she grins, mischievously.

"Hey, just remember I trust you enough to let you influence me," he says, giving her a pointed look. "Okay, 1....2....3...." As he hits three, Jason drops under the surface of the water, enjoying the sensation cooling down his red cheeks.

She sticks her tongue out at him playfully before letting herself sink. The coolness of the water slipping over her skin clears her mind and she feels less embarrassed almost immediately. Things just seem easier underwater, somehow.

Surfacing, she pushes her hair out of her eyes and waits for him to emerge.

Jasons surfaces shortly after Iris, shaking his hair out of his face like a dog. "Better?"

She laughs, holding up her hands to protect herself from the drips that fly out of his hair. "Better. You?"

[jasonwright]

"Much better. I can talk about anything in the world now," he smiles brightly.

[littleredsiren]

"Yay!" she laughs. "Do you have anything you want to talk about? I feel like this whole conversation has been me, me, me."

[jasonwright]

"Um," he thinks, looking up at the sky. "Not really? Your siren stuff is way more interesting."

[littleredsiren]

Iris swims over, poking him. "Come on. Nothing? Really?"

[jasonwright]

"I'm not a very interesting guy," he shrugs. "You know about my family drama, that's about it."

[littleredsiren]

She tuts, giving him a nudge. "You're interesting to me. How's work been going? You can't tell me being out on a fishing boat isn't interesting..."

[jasonwright]

"Maybe only interesting to people like us who like the water," he grins. "It's slowing down actually. Season's almost over." He doesn't add that when the season ends, his job ends.

"Really? What do you do after that?" she asks, curious now. She knows he does odd jobs around the town sometimes but that hardly bring in a steady flow of cash...

Dang it. He swims a bit, acting like he's not worried, because if he's worried, Iris will worry. "Take other jobs and wait for the next season to start."

She feels her forehead scrunch into a frown. "Are you going to be okay until then? How are you going to get by?" She can tell he's worried about it, no matter how hard he tries to hide it. And now she's worried that he's going to leave the town, and leave her behind.

[jasonwright]

"I have work with Lara to continue. Now I'm not on a boat, I can focus on that." Wow, Iris isn't great at hiding her emotions from her face and he's now focused on reassuring her he'll be fine. "Seasons end, it happens. I just find work in between. I'll manage like I always have."

"You're not... going to move on to another town, are you?" she asks, clearly upset at the thought. She doesn't have many people and the thought of losing one of her closest friends is almost physically painful to her.

[jasonwright]

His heart honestly kind of drops at the way she looks. It's been a weird experience for Jason, first making friends and now knowing that those friends would actually care if he stayed or packed up and left. "I only do that as a last resort. Or if I need to get out. I like it here, Iris. I won't leave unless I absolutely have to."

Taking a deep breath, she swims over, latching onto him in a tight hug. "I'm glad. And if you do leave... let me know before?" she asks, her voice a little shaky.

He relaxes a bit, wrapping his arms around her to hug her back. "I won't ever leave without seeing you first. I promise."

Giving him a quick squeeze, she backs up, realizing that a) this could be potentially awkward if she held on much longer and b) it's really difficult to tread water while hugging someone.

"Thank you. That's all I need to know," she says, giving him a tiny smile.

"Good. I'm glad. I'm not going anywhere for awhile," he smiles. "And seriously, Lara's projects will keep me busy."

"Are you going to be doing work around the Watersong then?" she asks, curious. "That'd be fun. I could say hi on my way to lessons!"

[jasonwright]

"Maybe?" He shrugs. "Anywhere she wants me. She talked about fixing up employee homes and then some projects in her own place."

[littleredsiren]

"Wow. You're gonna be pretty busy then, huh?" she asks, laying back and just letting herself float idly for awhile. "She'd better treat you well and pay you good. Tell me if she isn't, because she may be my mentor and important to me, but I can still kick her butt for you."
