Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

She sticks her tongue out at him, paddling gracefully around him in circles. "Gosh, really? I never would have noticed," she snarks. "Next you're going to tell me the sky is blue."

"And, brace yourself, water is wet." He ducks under the water, swimming further out. Alfredo looks like he wants to follow, but realizing the water's too deep for his liking, he paddles back to the beach.

"No way!" she gasps mockingly, following him out and sending a splash of water at him. "You're just blowing my mind all over the place today."

"Hey," he laughs and ducks to avoid the splash. "I've traveled a lot, Iris, I kinda know so much about the world."

She grins, kicking a fresh wave at him as he comes back up. "So... Where have you been?" she asks, curious. "I've only been here, Seattle, and Greece so..."

He closes his eyes just as the wave hits him and shakes his hair out of his face. "Uhhhh...definitely not Greece. I've been through most of the North. All of Alaska, Portland, Salem, stuck around North Dakota for a bit, Deerfield, Gary, Cleveland..." he squints, trying to remember more names but, "I don't really remember a lot of the cities since most were small. Never been to the south though."

She bites her lip, glad she's scaled up so he can't see her blush. He's just too attractive. Damn Kennedy and her ideas.

"Wow... Do you have a favourite place? I mean... There's got to be one place that stands out as the best, right?"

"Alaska," he says with a bit of a dreamy smile. "I like to be near the water and the Bering Sea was my first love."

Iris sighs happily, just thinking about the sea. "I can understand that... Some of the few memories I have from before the crash are swimming in the Aegean Sea with my mother," she says. "Our house was right on the water's edge."

"Crash?" he asks, questioning if before he can even think it's none of his business, really. "Sorry, you don't have to tell me. That sounds pretty amazing though. I didn't get to swim in the Bering Sea much. Freezing water and death and all," he grins. "I fell overboard once. Wasn't fun."

"I never told you?" she asks, tilting her head. "I was in a car crash when I was six. That's when my parents died, and I had a bit of a brain bleed that wiped out a lot of my memories before it."

Iris hisses softly at the thought of him falling overboard. "That's terrible... Were you okay afterwards?"

"Oh...wow...I'm sorry that happened. I'm glad you're okay now." He moves a bit closer. "You're okay, right?"

"Cold. I had a hell of a runny nose after. Had to stay in a shitton of blankets. If you're in that water too long, you freeze to death. We've uh...lost guys."

"Yeah!" she says, putting on a bright smile so she doesn't worry him, forgetting she's rather... shark-y looking right now. "I'm still missing memories, but working with my powers is bringing a lot of them back and clearing up some of the more confusing ones."

Her smile fades slightly, replaced with worry. "Wow... I'm really glad that didn't happen to you," she says, slightly breathy at the thought. "I can't imagine how scary it must have been, falling over and knowing that."

He knows she's not 100% okay and can even see her shake slightly, but he takes her word for it. Because he knows Iris worries when other people worry about her. "Good. I'm glad you're learning and remembering some things."

He scratches his chin, making a face. "You don't really think? It happens so fast and the water's so cold your brain just kind of shuts down. I didn't really know what happened until I was in a cabin with twenty blankets wrapped around me." Jason gives her a small smile. "This water's much safer though."

She leans over and hugs him, pulling back quickly. "Sorry. I'm just glad you're okay," she smiles. "Cold water isn't really a problem for me, thankfully. I think it's the siren blood."

He's surprised by the hug, but mostly because of how quick it was. He smiles. "Jealous. I will not be joining you for winter swims, sorry."

Iris lets out an undignified little snort. "Um, yeah. I wouldn't let you join me," she grins. "I'm not going to be the cause of you getting hypothermia, thanks."

"Wow, I'm touched. I really am," he grins. "Must mean you really care."

Iris scoffs, splashing at him. "Of course I care, you doofus! Why wouldn't I?"

"I dunno, maybe you finally figured out I'm a lost cause?" he teases.

Iris treads water, giving him a flat stare. "I'm gonna dunk you, if you actually think that."

[jasonwright]

"I'm joking, I'm joking." He holds up his hands and gives her his most innocent smile.

[littleredsiren]

"Maybe I should dunk you anyway... Just in case," she says, grinning broadly and beginning to swim in lazy circles around him.

"Now why would you go and do something like that?" he asks, watching her circle with a smile.

"Because it's fun? And preventative?" she grins, before disappearing beneath the waves and into the darkness. Swimming below him, she taps his ankle with a claw before going deeper, her eyes letting her see through the murky darkness easily, and her gills letting her stay down as long as she needed to throw him off his game.
