Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

"A few times? Other times, I was grumpy and someone said the wrong thing," he shrugs. "I had grumpy days."

Jason grabs a few more items from the table and adds them to her plate. "You need to eat food then, not just sweets."

"Wow... I don't think I've ever seen you grumpy," she muses, tilting her head to look at him. "I can't imagine it..."

Iris stares as he adds some more food to her plate. "Sweets are food..."

"It takes a lot," he agrees. "Continuous bad weather is my downfall."

He tilts his head at her, like 'Girl, what would you say to me?' "You need food food, Iris. Nutrition. Especially if you're tired."

"I can see that... I can't imagine being outside all the time when we get a week of rain would be much fun. You should come by my place to hang out when it gets like that," she scolds. "That way your things won't be ruined and you and Alfredo won't catch cold."

She's regretting using that lie now. She's not that hungry, but she can't take it back now. "Okay, okay!" She holds her hands up in mock defeat, her tone turning teasing. "I'll take some real food, mother!"

"It's definitely a bummer when that happens. Which, thankfully, isn't too often." He scratches the back of his head with his free hand. "I'll remember to do that," he promises. At least as time goes, Jason's getting more and more accepting of Iris' offers. He knows he'll be fine out in the weather, but he doesn't want to make her worry over him.

"Good girl," he pinches her cheek lightly before sitting down at one of the tables. He looks around at the other people eating and waits until Iris takes the seat beside him before he leans over. "Do you know most of these people?"

"Good," she smiles, glad he's getting used to accepting her worrying.

She bats his hand away from her cheek, scrunching up her face in distaste before she sits. "Ummm..." A quick look around reveals she has no idea who ninety percent of the people here are and she shrugs. "Not really. I recognize a couple from Lara's club, and I think a lot of them brought their families. Oh! There's Michael!" She gives a quick wave to the man, who waves back before returning to his conversation. "He's the one who Lara got to help me learn the ins and outs of my powers."

"Yeah?" He looks at the man as he waves at Iris and gives him a half-smile. "Sounds like he's pretty helpful. How's the training going, by the way?" He takes a bite of his hamburger, immediately stopping to stare at it like he's in love. It's the best damn burger he's ever had and he almost feels bad about eating it. Almost.

"Pretty good! Lara's getting me to access different parts of my powers. Michael is the test subject," she giggles, taking a bite of her cake. "He likes sirens using their powers on him or something. It's still weird trying to make him do anything other than silly stuff like dancing or hopping on one foot though."

Jason raises his brows at the way she describes Michael. "He's definitely in the right place then," he grins.

"That's what Lara says too," she laughs, nibbling at a cookie on her plate as she frowns at the latest text from Kennedy. She glances down at the shore, where Alfredo's sniffing around the edge of the surf. "Hey... Wanna go swimming once you're done? Lara says I can transform safely here. Apparently she got charms put up so anyone who isn't 'in the know' will just see us normally."

She quietly prays that that didn't come out as awkward and out of place as it seemed. She really didn't need to explain why she was suddenly so eager to swim.

He nods when she asks to go swimming. Nothing about the idea seems out of place to him, it being a beach party at all, kids and their parents already playing in the waves. And honestly, he hasn't been swimming since he arrived in Siren Cove, something that seems out of place here.

"Sure," he answers after he finishes his burger. "I like swimming, and if it helps you to practice, then why not?"

"Yay!" she smiles, bouncing up from her seat and grabbing their plates. "I'll take care of these and meet you down there?"

That seemed like the best excuse to be able to sneak a picture of him without him knowing. Damn Kennedy was almost as good as a siren with her convincing.

"Got it." Jason gets up from the table and heads down the beach, whistling loudly. Alfredo stops in his tracks as he chases a group of children, his ears perking at the familiar sound. The dog turns around and darts toward Jason when he realizes he's being called. Once they get to the water, Jason pulls off his shirt and tosses in onto the sand. He tugs off his jeans so he's now in his swimming trunks, thankful he brought them to a beach party. Alfredo runs out into the water, biting excitedly at the waves as Jason waits for Iris to join them.

Iris tosses the paper plates into the garbage and pulls out her phone, pretending to check her messages as she walks down to the shore. Stealthily, she snaps a pic of his back to send to Kennedy. Finally looking away from the screen, she gets a proper look at him and immediately feels her face heat up and her breath catch. This was such a bad idea. She wasn't going to be able to control her blushing and he was going to see and realize she was a horrible person oh GOD.

Reasoning that the cool water might help, she strips off her outer layer of clothes, getting down to her bathing suit before plunging under the waves and coming up soaked, hair everywhere.

"Enjoying yourself?" she manages to squeak out as she comes up near Jason, praying her face isn't nearly as red as it feels.

Jason smiles when she appears out of the water and Alfredo's immediately paddling toward her with a watery bark. "I actually am. Water's nice. Are you feeling okay?" he asks, noticing the flush of her cheeks. Normally, he wouldn't think anything of it, but in addition to Iris stating earlier that she was tired, he's now worried she may be getting sick.

Cursing internally, she reaches for the feeling of transformation and lets herself slip into siren form, covering up the blush. "I'm fine!" she stammers out, sinking down into the water up to her chin and hugging Alfredo when he paddles close enough.

Jason nods slowly as she changes into her siren form. "Well now you're just red all over."

She sticks her tongue out at him, paddling gracefully around him in circles. "Gosh, really? I never would have noticed," she snarks. "Next you're going to tell me the sky is blue."

"And, brace yourself, water is wet." He ducks under the water, swimming further out. Alfredo looks like he wants to follow, but realizing the water's too deep for his liking, he paddles back to the beach.

"No way!" she gasps mockingly, following him out and sending a splash of water at him. "You're just blowing my mind all over the place today."

"Hey," he laughs and ducks to avoid the splash. "I've traveled a lot, Iris, I kinda know so much about the world."

She grins, kicking a fresh wave at him as he comes back up. "So... Where have you been?" she asks, curious. "I've only been here, Seattle, and Greece so..."

He closes his eyes just as the wave hits him and shakes his hair out of his face. "Uhhhh...definitely not Greece. I've been through most of the North. All of Alaska, Portland, Salem, stuck around North Dakota for a bit, Deerfield, Gary, Cleveland..." he squints, trying to remember more names but, "I don't really remember a lot of the cities since most were small. Never been to the south though."

She bites her lip, glad she's scaled up so he can't see her blush. He's just too attractive. Damn Kennedy and her ideas.

"Wow... Do you have a favourite place? I mean... There's got to be one place that stands out as the best, right?"

"Alaska," he says with a bit of a dreamy smile. "I like to be near the water and the Bering Sea was my first love."
