Night Swimming (Open)

It's been a trying day...week...month, if she's honest. The situation with Bach and the missing elders was getting on her last nerve.

She needed a swim.

Pulling her phone from her bag, she sent a text to a few of the more senior members of the siren community:

Night swimming tonight from sundown on the wrecking beach. All welcome. Food and drink provided. Please spread the word.

That should do it.

She send another note to her contacts at the police station so the unaware human element would be steered away. The wards would be up around the beach, discouraging vanilla humans from coming down there but it didn't hurt to have insurance in these matters.

Hopefully the sirens would come, maybe some of the witches. It would be nice to sprawl on the rocks for a few hours with friends.

"Only if I can come by afterwards to - no, I'm not going to teach them the mistakes Hollywood makes when it comes to a fictional-" She shot a look at Lara - "probably fictional monster."

Lara laughed. "You won't be able to resist it. You know you won't."

"No, I'm not going to get near any of it in any way."

[asharpertongue]

"Yeah yeah. I'll believe that when I see it."

[louise_abasi]

"I hope you're not too fond of believing then, because it's not going to happen. It's better for my health not to."

[asharpertongue]

"But much less amusing for me."

[louise_abasi]

"And of course I'm only here for my amusing suffering."

[asharpertongue]

"And the booze. Can't forget the booze."

[louise_abasi]

"You hang around me for booze? Oh honey", she put on a thick Southern accent. "You're sore in the head for that though'. You own a bar."

[asharpertongue]

"Yes but I can't drink with my friend if she never comes to my bar, can I?"

[louise_abasi]

"Yikes, if that isn't an uncomfortable truth." She made a face. "Can I blame my father for that?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara chuckled. "I'll allow it."

[louise_abasi]

"You could come by my place, of course."

[asharpertongue]

"When you've been out of town for months?"

[louise_abasi]

She put her hand against her forehead and leaned back in a super dramatic gesture. "I keep trying to amends and you refuse to take my offerings."

[asharpertongue]

Lara cackled and patted her friends hand. "I love you all the same."

[louise_abasi]

"I'm going to be around until you get enough of me, damn you."

[asharpertongue]

"I hope so." She lay back on the still warm rocks and looked up at the sky.

[louise_abasi]

Lou looked at her out of the corner of her eyes. "Everything's right, right? Because I can be your buoy, but I enjoy being your friend more."

[asharpertongue]

She smiled at Lou and threaded their fingers together. "Everything's fine. I just feel like things are changing, you know?"

[louise_abasi]

"Changes can be nice as well. Aren't we talking about nice changes?"

[asharpertongue]

"I hope so. I really do. Although murder doesn't tend to lend itself to 'nice' changes."

[louise_abasi]

"This case will be solved. The murder or murderers will be caught and judged. We - the town will come out better, although mourning. It will happen."

[asharpertongue]

She sighed. "I know. It just makes my life more difficult in the meantime. Which I realise as i'm saying it how selfish that is. So i'm shutting up now." Lara zipped her lips.

"Human beings are selfish. I guess sirens are as well." She squeezed her hand. "At least it's on your mind. It would be more worrisome if you didn't even notice."
