Night Swimming (Open)

It's been a trying day...week...month, if she's honest. The situation with Bach and the missing elders was getting on her last nerve.

She needed a swim.

Pulling her phone from her bag, she sent a text to a few of the more senior members of the siren community:

Night swimming tonight from sundown on the wrecking beach. All welcome. Food and drink provided. Please spread the word.

That should do it.

She send another note to her contacts at the police station so the unaware human element would be steered away. The wards would be up around the beach, discouraging vanilla humans from coming down there but it didn't hurt to have insurance in these matters.

Hopefully the sirens would come, maybe some of the witches. It would be nice to sprawl on the rocks for a few hours with friends.

"I know. That's why I try to keep the two of you apart."

"And it's why I love you so dearly."

"So does James, although he'd never admit it."

[asharpertongue]

"The day he does is the day I propose marriage to him."

"Oh no, sweetie. Don't think I'll get there first."

Lara shoved her friend lightly, laughing. "I'd rather not think about it."

"What, you don't want to see me happy?"

[asharpertongue]

"With someone that deserves you."

[louise_abasi]

"Maybe James is very gentle when it comes to me."

[asharpertongue]

She cocked her head. "Oh? DO tell."

[louise_abasi]

"Sometimes he smiles at me when I talk to him."

[asharpertongue]

Lara blinked in shock. "He smiles? As in, not smirking?? I don't believe you." She was unable to hide her smile. "I'm sorry, I know I'm mean." She looked up at where the moon was creeping above th horizon. "Moon drunk."

"Not sure about that. And maybe he just wants me to look if there's something between his teeth .." She giggled. "Is it time for me to go?"

Lara leaned heavily on her friend and shook her head. "A while yet."

"Oh, right now you're just cooling down to save your energy."

[asharpertongue]

"Exactly. And you're warm." She tucks herself in closer.

[louise_abasi]

"Because you're ..not?" She puts an arm around her. "Come here, fool."

[asharpertongue]

Lara pressed her face into Lou's shoulder and breathed in the scent of sea and sand and home. "It's been a nice night, hasn't it? Everyone seems to have had fun?"

"It looks like everyone is crazy comfortable, tired or crazy drunk so yeah, it could be a success. Did you manage to unwind a little?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara nodded. "I did." She looked at the horizon and the moon settling up in the sky and she sat up, regretfully. "And now I think you should get home and get to bed."

"Okay." She offered her cheek. "Kiss."

[asharpertongue]

Grinning, Lara planted a kiss on her friends cheek and slipped off the rocks into the water. "Goodnight, Lou."

She got up, just a bit wobbly, and waved. "Be safe and let me know when you get home."

Lara's voice had a lilting edge when she replied. "Of course, worrier of mine. Good night."
