BACKGROUND & HISTORY
Lara was born and bred in Siren Cove but is Irish in origin. She had a happy loving childhood until her parents went missing when she was thirteen. She was taken in by the Siren Matriarch, her aunt, and was raised happy and loved. During high school, she established herself as a mediator and go between for the Thorntons and Coombs, settling petty arguments and feuds between the younger members of the families. She continues that role today and has become intertwined with their politics always remaining neutral so that the balance is maintained.
Siren society is a Matriarchy and the position is passed down from the previous Matriarch when they retire either through choice or death. Lara’s predecessor (and adoptive mother and mentor) abruptly retired to Greece ten years ago making Lara the youngest Matriarch in the town’s history. As Matriarch she provides advice and assistance to the younger members of the Siren community. She also serves as the final word in matters of Siren on Siren crime. Although she has had some short lived relationships, she has never married and is childless, preferring less complicated, short-term relationships and one night stands.
PERSONALITY
Lara is by nature and necessity level-headed and reasonable. Her sense of humour tends towards being dry and sarcastic. Underneath her cool exterior she is actually very passionate. She cares about the people in her community deeply, especially the younger members. She feels the weight of her role keenly but accepts the pressure as the price she pays for providing a peaceful environment for her community. She is not quick to anger but is fierce when roused, especially when her employees are concerned. She is not afraid to use violence to teach unruly people, either bar patrons or escort customers, a lesson.
Though she presents a put together and collected face when dealing with official business, she has a fun geeky side. She’s a huge fan of comics and science fiction and makes an annual trip to SDCC, holding a lottery every year and taking several of the younger members of the Siren Cove inhabitants with her. She is also a tech-fiend and she has every gadget imaginable. In romance, she is very passionate as Sirens are wont to be. She tends to take human lovers, but has been known to get involved with visiting Sirens as long as they aren’t there in official capacities. She has never been in a relationship of any sort with either a Thornton or a Coomb as it could compromise her impartiality.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY
Her position as mediator means she is privy to a lot of the dirtier secrets of the conflict. She sometimes wants to bash their heads together at the monthly meetings she holds for the ambassadors from both families to exchange information but she’s completely neutral. She has to be to maintain the balance.
LIFESTYLE
Lara runs the Watersong bar. She has been running it for eight years and has the business well established. Additionally she runs a private escort service with a dozen or so employees, mostly Sirens and humans but with a witch or two in the mix. As such she’s made a fair amount of money both legitimately and illegitimately. She lives in the nicer end of town in a large airy apartment and drives a brand new Mustang.
POWERS & ABILITIES
Siren. Her powers are the usual for a Siren – great singing voice, ability to persuade humans and other supernaturals to do what she wants, slower aging, inhuman beauty, the ability to shift into an aquatic form in water and a hybrid form on land when she is in situations of heightened emotion. When that happens her teeth narrow and sharpen, nails sharpen and lengthen into claws, grey-green scales start to form over her skin and her eyes glow white. Her strength and agility increases and her persuasive talents become irresistible.
