Jingle all the bells! (Close for Levi)
Dec. 24th, 2015 07:23 pmOkay so maybe she'd gone a little bit overboard with the decorating, but this was their first Christmas together and she thought she could be excused for going a little excessive. Besides, Osha was having a whale of a time chasing the motes of light from the fairy lights.
They'd had a good day so far. Spent a lazy morning in bed together with soft kisses and touches and playful morning sex, before they got up and made a ridiculously large breakfast, eating it together on the couch while they watched cartoons and Christmas movies. Not being much of a cook, Lara had ordered easily cooked Christmas food and stuck it in the oven while they played a few games and opened a few gifts.
Lara hadn't had so much fun at Christmas in a really long time.
Now it was getting late in the afternoon and the post-dinner sleepiness was taking them over as they lounged on the couch with mulled cider.
"So I'm thinking that I might not be able to move and you're going to have to carry me to bed later. Or we could just lay here forever and meld with the leather. Dealers choice." She murmured, shifting back a little against Levi's shoulder.

Getting ready for work isn't normally such a chore, but today is Lara's first day back after the whole Evelyn stealing her powers debacle.
She'd changed three times already and finally settled on something comfortable and semi-casual. Osha had looked at her with the air of someone holding a portable safety net but Lara had gotten most of her nerves out of the way last night after the conversation with Levi. Thank god for him. She looked in on him sleeping in the next room. They needed to talk some more. There was too much to say in just one night.
Lara shut the door behind her after leaving him a note and headed to her car.
***
Watersong was the same as always. None of her human staff seemed to notice that anything had been amiss but as soon as she set foot in the door, Michael was on her. He didn't say much - he never did - but he hugged her tight and whispered "Welcome back, boss." in her ear before letting her go.
"I'll be in my office, clearing up this mess." She murmured and Michael nodded.
"I'll bring food and drinks." He said, smiling down at her before he headed off back to the kitchen.
Lara had never really figured Michael out and right now she didn't want to. She was just glad someone was happy to see her back where she belonged.
Her office was a bit of a mess. Dropping her bag on the couch, she headed to her desk and started sorting through the papers. Clearly Les had had a time of it in her absence and she frowned at that thought. So many people had had to deal with so much while she'd been...absent. She didn't know how she was going to repay them for the fact that she even had an Enclave to come back to.

She didn't know how she was going to repay them for the fact that she even had an Enclave to come back to.
The dress was the problem.
Lara didn't know whether to go for traditional and tested black cocktail dress or something with a bit more...wow factor. She wanted to impress Levi, but not completely overwhelm him. He'd called a few times, left messages and she'd returned them with increasing flirtatiousness that he'd responded to well.
A few times she found herself imagining what life would have been like with him if he truly had been her boyfriend and found that she really liked the idea. He was...he felt like he fit with her.
Shaking off the daydream, she decided. Wow factor.
She pulled the dress on and straightened it, tidying her hair and examining her reflection.
"Not too bad, huh?" She asked Osha who was lazing around on the floor. The big dog gave her a doggy grin and rolled on her back. "You're useless." Lara said fondly just as the doorbell rang.
Grinning, she grabbed her heels and bag and padded down the stairs to open the door.
"Hi." She said as she opened the door and slipped into her shoes. "I'm ready, honest."

Lara hadn't slept this well in years, she was sure of it. She'd been trashed which wasn't like her but occasionally even the usual designated driver got a night off.
Stretching lazily, she rolled her head from side to side to see if there was any hangover issues. When all she got was a slight twinge, she tried to roll over. That's when she realised she wasn't alone, eyes going wide in surprise.
A body was laying face planted into the pillow next to her, a warm stretch of well muscled and tanned skin against hers in the bright white sheets. Lara went up on her elbow and looked down at his face where it has been turned towards her in sleep and smiled. He was gorgeous. She didn't have a clue how she'd been sober enough to get him to come home with her, and much to her surprise, she didn't remember anything that had happened between them, if anything had happened at all. The way she felt physically suggested it hadn't which, looking at him now, she was pretty happy about. If something happened with this guy, she wanted to remember it.
She tried hard to remember his name but drew a blank. She frowned for a second and then brushed it off. They could worry about names later after they'd said good morning in a hopefully pleasant way.
Turning over to press against his side, Lara kissed his shoulder once, twice, before she moved up to his ear, free hand ghosting across his lower back under the sheet that just barely covered him.
"Morning..." She murmured softly against the shell of his ear.

Trying something new (Closed to Levi)
Jun. 18th, 2015 05:49 pmThe talisman that Nat had made for Lara years ago always hung heavily around her neck whenever she put it on. Normally she only used it for meetings with people that knew what she was and wanted an even playing field when they were meeting. As she didn't spread the fact around all that much, the thin silver necklace rarely ever left the iron box that housed it. But this weekend she had other ideas for the chain.
Lara settled it around her neck and made a face as her power drifted down, buried under the weight of magic of the necklace until it was a tiny speck on the edge of her senses. She shivered and then tried to change her nails to talons to no avail.
"I guess that still works then." She said to her reflection in the mirror before grinning as the disorientation of being plain human faded to an ignorable level and walked into the lounge to a waiting, and slightly confused, Osha. "Don't look at me like that. A change is as good as a rest." she scratched the big dogs ears and sat back. The bar was being looked after this weekend by Michael and Les would call her if anything needed to be handled at Heart of Gold so she had a rare and precious weekend off to spend with Levi and she was going to make the most of it, powers or none.

Lara had been riding for a solid day when she finally saw the tower her employer had laid out for her in the map Lara had been given.
In the setting sun, she looked the place over from a vantage point on a hill opposite and bit her lip, wondering how she was supposed to get in. The high walls of the castle below were in serious disrepair. Some had crumbled to just piles of rubble and the ones that hadn't looked treacherous to her eyes even from this distance. Maybe she could scale them but she would likely start a rockfall and get buried underneath it. Not worth the risk.
The tower itself though...that seemed relatively unaffected. Not that it had been repaired or bolstered in any way, just that time and nature didn't seem like they had been inclined to touch it. If she'd been a betting woman, she'd have put money on the tower being no more than twenty or thirty years old. Certainly far younger than the stones of the walls below it.
It was also at least twice as high as the highest of the walls below it. Lara groaned as she realised the rope and grapple she had brought was never going to reach the small window at the top.
She sighed and kicked her horses flanks to get it moving. At the base of the tower she set camp and lit a small fire, laying out her bedroll and putting a pot on to boil. Maybe inspiration would come after a hot meal and some sleep.

Surprise! (Closed, for Davin)
Mar. 26th, 2015 10:44 pmLara had been planning this for a month. She'd scoured the ads online and finally found what she wanted. With any luck Cam and Jason could keep Davin distracted while at the same time keeping a big enough space free long enough for Lara to have it delivered.
Jason - who'd kindly offered to stay late and await the delivery while Davin was out with James last night - had texted her to say that it'd been delivered and where they'd stashed it. Which is why Lara was waiting outside Davin's place with coffee and a grin at a godawful hour of the morning. That said, she was looking forward to his reaction.
"Hi." She chirped in greeting when he left his building. "Want company on your walk to work?"

Lara watched the weather closely. Looked like it was going to be a rough night. The storm had swept in a little further down the coast and it was headed their way. The bar wasn't completely full but storms either cleared out the patrons or brought them. Judging by the steadily building trickle, this was a 'bring them in' kind of night.

Stepping behind the bar, Lara grinned at Michael. "Might be busy. Better get some vodka on ice...I think snowy cocktails are going to be in demand tonight." Michael only grunted and sighed in a put upon way. She laughed and went back to her stool at the end of the bar looking out over the filling dancefloor.
[ooc: feel free to pitch up and enjoy the storm!]

THREADJACKING: I have no real issue with that. Play away however you want.
SLOWTAGGING/BACKTAGGING: Yup because timezones are a whore.
NSFW: Pffft, of course. Porn away!
AVOIDED SUBJECTS: Nope.
PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: Female. She/Her etc.
IC CHARACTERISTICS: Information for players.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: For looks, please see Scarlett Johannson. She dresses smartly in nice tops and trousers or skirts/dresses when she's doing business, smart party-wear for club nights, yoga pants and vests for lounging around, jeans and tops for being out and about on her off time.
DEMEANOR: Lara is by nature and necessity level-headed and reasonable. Her sense of humour tends towards being dry and sarcastic. Underneath her cool exterior she is actually very passionate. She cares about the people in her community deeply, especially the younger members. She feels the weight of her role keenly but accepts the pressure as the price she pays for providing a peaceful environment for her community. She is not quick to anger but is fierce when roused, especially when her employees are concerned. She is not afraid to use violence to teach unruly people, either bar patrons or escort customers, a lesson.
Though she presents a put together and collected face when dealing with official business, she has a fun geeky side. She’s a huge fan of comics and science fiction and makes an annual trip to SDCC, holding a lottery every year and taking several of the younger members of the Siren Cove inhabitants with her. She is also a tech-fiend and she has every gadget imaginable. In romance, she is very passionate as Sirens are wont to be. She tends to take human lovers, but has been known to get involved with visiting Sirens as long as they aren't there in official capacities. She has never been in a relationship of any sort with either a Thornton or a Coomb as it could compromise her impartiality.
PHYSICAL CONTACT: She's fine with it if it's someone she knows. Strangers she's a little more reserved with but won't object to a handshake.
FLIRTING: She'll roll with it. She enjoys flirting and she's a siren so that's hardly a surprise.
RELATIONSHIPS: She's off the market thanks to Levi.
HOME INFORMATION: Link!. Her house is on the north side of town in the fancier side of town but not too far from her businesses. Her house is full of tech but is cosy and comfortable all the same.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: I can't think of anything outside the usual -isms.
POWERS: Her powers are the usual for a Siren – great singing voice, ability to persuade humans and other supernaturals to do what she wants, slower ageing, inhuman beauty. She also has the ability to shift into an aquatic form in water and a hybrid form on land when she is in situations of heightened emotion. Her position as matriarch means that she has more influence over other sirens, although her position also means she tends to not use her powers as frequently as she might because she has to be seen to be setting an example of restraint for all sirens.
SIREN FORM: Lara has great control. Her change rarely ever comes unbidden. When it does it's because someone she loves is in trouble or she's in a heightened sexual state. She has three forms:
*Aquatic: She is able to breathe water. Her legs merge into a long tail covered in dark blue-green scales. Long fins split out from her tail and bio-luminescent patches appear all along her tail and the tentacles that form from her hair.
*Hybrid land form: Her teeth narrow and sharpen, nails sharpen and lengthen into claws, green-blue scales start to form over her skin and her eyes glow white-gold. Her strength and agility increases and her persuasive talents become irresistible.
*Matriarch form: As above but her scales lift and sharpen, darkening in colour. The tentacles from her aquatic form reappear and have barbs at the end like a stingray stinger.
IC PERMISSIONS: Permissions for IC game activity.
RELATIONSHIP CONTROL: Levi for romantic reasons. The Cabot boys and the Jung girls along with Louise and Owen have plenty of history and their players are free to write Lara into whichever memories or history they'd like.
MENTAL: They can try. Lara has pretty good mental defenses taught to her by her aunt so she'd be a very tough nut to crack unless she wanted to let someone (Levi) in.
FIGHTING/VIOLENCE: Sure!
LURING: She's the Matriarch so she wouldn't be susceptible to anything less than an enhanced by magic siren or another Matriarch. that said, she can allow herself to be influenced if she so chooses.
MAGIC: Sure! She's got a good sense for magic users though so a full frontal attack would have her changing to her stronger less susceptable forms pretty sharpish. That said, subtle magic is not her strong suit so creeping influences would probably get past her.
OTHER / NOTES: If you're unsure then ask! I'm always around generally :)

No good very bad day (Closed for Davin)
Dec. 9th, 2014 06:54 pmLara was furious. The mumbled call on her cell hadn't given her much information only that Davin was in hospital and that he'd gotten himself hurt. It was only when she called the hospital itself and persuaded one of her sirens to give her a little more information that she'd figured the rest of it out.
The words 'hate crime' were being bandied around.
She took a breath as she got out of her car and headed towards the hospital. First she'd see about Davin and his care and then she'd-...
She didn't get to finish the thought because she was too busy running across the parking lot to intercept Davin who was apparently not concerned about his care as he was leaving the hospital.
Her eyes were already flaring cold when she rounded on him.
"And just where the hell are you going?"

Retail Therapy. [Open for everyone]
Nov. 28th, 2014 08:34 pmLara might have bought too much.

She tended to do the majority of her Christmas shopping on Black Friday but usually she knew exactly what she wanted and went for it. Today she was wandering. She'd bought things for herself, for Levi, for the house and all of that on top of the things she went for.
The last week was intensely stressful. Losing people, searching for them and then the actual rescue and they still have no idea who is responsible. It was frustrating and usually buying for other people made her feel better but not today.
So she's grumpy, her feet hurt, her arms ache and her savings are cowering in fear but she trudges on. She still has a few more things to get before she can call it quits.
(OOC: Come find Lara and shop with her. Or buy her coffee. Or rub her feet. (Don't do that last one...Levi is the jealous sort.))

The boat trip and diving had been Levi's idea a while back but with one thing or another they'd only just managed to find the time for it. This weekend was the first quiet one they'd had since she'd returned from setting up the new enclave and Lara was ridiculously excited at the prospect of it being just them alone for the whole time.
Looking over the cooler and the assorted bags of groceries Lara shrugged. The food she'd packed for the weekend could have fed a half dozen people but she'd rather be over-prepared than under.
Leaving it by the stairs, she went into her room and finished packing her little weekend bag. She packed a couple of changes of clothes and a bathing suit although she wouldn't need it in the water, not if she was going to be swimming in her siren form. She was nervous and excited about that prospect in equal measure. Her siren form on land is far removed from the water form and until now it was only other sirens that had seen it. Only a few of those had seen the full matriarch siren form in all it's tentacled, bio-luminescent glory. But this was Levi, her mate, and he'd asked, so she would show him. Now she just had to hope he wouldn't find it too scary.
Shaking off the doubts and packing away the suit and the other beachy type things, she bounced down the stairs and put it all in the car. They were meeting at the docks where Levi's boat was docked. She didn't know what to expect but she was excited to find out.
The drive to the docks wasn't long and it was still relatively early when she got there, so she took the cooler and her bag and trudged down to watch the fishing boats heading out.

Sep. 22nd, 2014 04:38 pmLara hugged Michael tightly as the man lifted her off her feet.
"Missed you, Boss." He said gruffly, as he put her down. Michael didn't show outward affection very often and that was sign enough that the sentiment was genuine.
Lara laughed. "Yeah yeah...I'm sure you loved it. You and the others, all alone. Who knows what you all got up to while I was gone."
Michael grinned and shrugged and Lara rolled her eyes.
"I'll take that as a 'Don't ask questions if you don't want the answers, Boss' kind of shrug, shall I?" She said, but she meant it affectionately. Aside from Owen and Les, Michael was the one she trusted most with her staff and businesses. She was sure that, while everyone probably had got up to some mischief, none of them would have gotten anything too risky past him. "Go make it up to me by speaking to Isaac, will you? I heard he was looking for a bump in clients. I think few people were going to drop by today. If they do, I'm not doing anything that can't be disturbed."
Michael nodded and smiled. "Messages are all on your desk and the wages need approval for the accountants."
Patting his arm she smiled and opened the door to her office. She tossed her bag aside and settled into her chair. It was good to be home.
HIATUS for Lara and Daniel
Sep. 4th, 2014 06:01 pmLara packed her bag slowly. She didn't want to leave so soon after the cruise disaster and with whispers of secret councils running around the place it was just bad timing. But she'd promised Bonny that she would come and help with the integration of two enclaves months ago and the time had just run away with her. Les was more than capable of running the businesses and she was on the end of the phone if he needed her.
Levi had picked up Osha last night and she was probably frolicking happily in sand out back of his house and making a mess of his neat little place. That thought made her smile. She'd told him how much the dog loved the beach but she didn't think he'd believed her. Well, he'd find out how hard it was to get the big dog into a tub soon enough.
There was nothing left to do. Sighing she looked over her flight details and double checked her bags picking them up and locking up behind her as she went out to her taxi.
With a backwards glance, she headed out.

With a backwards glance, she headed out.
Hissing as she stretched, Lara put a hand on her mostly healed ribs and wandered out to the kitchen.
Osha lifted her head and scrambled to her feet, claws scritching over the floorboards as she slowed her approach, bumping gently against Lara's legs.
"I'm fine, girl." Lara said, smiling. She was, really. Physically at least. Mentally?
She walked through the lounge to the kitchen and put the coffee on, sorting through the cupboards for Osha's kibble and filling her bowl.
Lara watched the dog eat without really seeing. Her mind was still on that beach. The echoes of the power she'd tapped into there stuttered through her until she clamped down on them. She hadn't used them since then. She knew logically that it was instinct that had driven her has far afield as she'd gone but it still smarted. The pride she normally took in her control was battered and taking it's sweet time coming back together. She was left feeling...unmoored.
And then there was Levi. She'd managed to hide from him for a while. He'd refused to leave her that first night back after the rescue but beyond that he'd been busy with work and the aftermath of the accident so it'd been easy to make 'I'm recovering...I need to rest.' noises. Especially as it was true at the time, but as the days rolled on and her natural healing kicked in she began to feel the disconnect of being apart from her mate.
That want to be close to him was warring with her shame for what she'd done and making her indecisive. She hated being indecisive.
Her phone was in her hand, Levi's number dialed before she could question her actions. It was early and she wasn't sure what kind of shift he was working but she could always leave him a message if he didn't answer.
She gripped the phone tight and clenched her jaw as his voicemail message played.
"Hi...it's me. I need to see you." She said quietly after the beep. "I'm in all day. Come when you can, please?"
Hanging up, Lara looked down at Osha who was sitting looking up at her. The dog tilted her huge head at Lara and stepped closer until she was leaning heavily against her hip. Lara smiled and scratched behind Osha's ears. "Yeah - I hope he gets here soon too."

END OF HIATUS!
Aug. 22nd, 2014 02:01 pmI managed to get all my shit together so I can play again! Yay!
If there is a thread you want me to pick up again or a new post you want me to bring Lara or Daniel to then please drop me a nudge here. Otherwise I'll jump in when the next open post happens.
(Oh and just a warning, I have holidays in a couple of weeks and internet will likely be intermittent at best and some days completely non-existent but I will do a proper hiatus post with a decent reason for that. That will run for a fortnight :))

HIATUS for Lara and Daniel
Aug. 12th, 2014 12:55 pmSooooo I have some shit to do this week and possibly early next week too and I can't promise that I'll be around. I have an endoscopy tomorrow that I'm frankly shitting myself about and there's some personal stuff I'm trying to work through that is going to take up most of my mental energy.
I think I have a fair few open tags with Lara at the moment. We can either leave them open and I'll get back to them when I get back on here in a week or so, or we can call them done and move on. If anyone wants to use Watersong/Heart of Gold employees/hotel then consider this permission.
I'll still be on twitter and email during the day but I think evenings might be sparse for a little while.
I'm sorry I haven't planned this better - I would normally put up a proper reason for her being AWOL but I can't think of a decent one right now. I'll be back eventually though so I'll come up with something.

"No, Jenna, I'm sorry. I can't take in a dozen from your enclave. I'd be happy to take two or three but I just don't have the room for a full dozen. I have my own balance to maintain and with the curse..." Lara tapped a few notes into a document on her laptop as she listened to the desperate matriarch from San Francisco. Her enclave had grown too large for the local witch population to feel comfortable so they were negotiating moves for the willing.
Lara thought for a second before continuing. "Have you thought about asking Mariska? They had the Phage last year...I know they're hurting for new blood. They're a little more old fashioned but they'd be great for the more reserved of yours that want to settle and grow their families."
The delighted screech down the line made Lara smile. Jenna was a lovely woman and she was glad to help her. "I know. Do you want me to make the introductions? I could go and smooth over the transition. Mariska might appreciate a mediator." Jenna affirmed and they agreed on a few more details before they hung up. It would mean a trip in September but it would be worth it.
She's tapping out a message to another contact when there's a knock on the door.
"Come in." She called, looking up and smiling as the door opened. "Hi. What can I do for you today?"
