Night Swimming (Open)

It's been a trying day...week...month, if she's honest. The situation with Bach and the missing elders was getting on her last nerve.

She needed a swim.

Pulling her phone from her bag, she sent a text to a few of the more senior members of the siren community:

Night swimming tonight from sundown on the wrecking beach. All welcome. Food and drink provided. Please spread the word.

That should do it.

She send another note to her contacts at the police station so the unaware human element would be steered away. The wards would be up around the beach, discouraging vanilla humans from coming down there but it didn't hurt to have insurance in these matters.

Hopefully the sirens would come, maybe some of the witches. It would be nice to sprawl on the rocks for a few hours with friends.

"I hope so. I really do. Although murder doesn't tend to lend itself to 'nice' changes."

"This case will be solved. The murder or murderers will be caught and judged. We - the town will come out better, although mourning. It will happen."

[asharpertongue]

She sighed. "I know. It just makes my life more difficult in the meantime. Which I realise as i'm saying it how selfish that is. So i'm shutting up now." Lara zipped her lips.

"Human beings are selfish. I guess sirens are as well." She squeezed her hand. "At least it's on your mind. It would be more worrisome if you didn't even notice."

[asharpertongue]

She snorts a laugh. "Like I couldn't notice something like that with both families calling every day."

[louise_abasi]

"If I can do anything to lift some kind of weight from your shoulders .." She looks up. "You know you're welcome. And I know you don't want me in your business, but I mean small things like making sure you eat and sleep."

[asharpertongue]

Lara smiled and shook her head. "You're a great friend, Lou. What would I do without you?"

"Pouting under the sea, talking to crabs and fishes."
She pulled her into a hug. "Or start a massacre, one of these two."

[asharpertongue]

Lara hugged her back and nodded. "Yes...maybe that'd be better. Kill them all."

[louise_abasi]

"Hush, hush ..you don't mean that, sweetie."

[asharpertongue]

Lara grumbled. "Do so."

[louise_abasi]

"Don't make me put you in the naughty corner." She tickled her sides. "There's no alcohol there."

Lara gasped and made a face. "Fate worse than death!"

[louise_abasi]

"Let's drop the subject of death right a-way. What are you going to do tomorrow, after you fixed your hangover?"

"I'm going to meet with the Thorntons." She sighed. "It'll be about as much fun as you imagine."

[louise_abasi]

"Oh. Oh dear. About the ongoing situation?"

[asharpertongue]

She nodded. "Yep. They've been clamouring for a meeting for a week."

[louise_abasi]

"That means they're eager and you're cooperating and therefore allowed to call at least thirty percent of the shots. Hold on to that."

[asharpertongue]

She nods. And then she smiles slyly. "Although this time I have a secret weapon. Les is my PA now. And you should see him in a suit..."

[louise_abasi]

"Les." She searches her brain for a second. "The garbage jumping witch?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara nods. "He's a lot smarter than people think. I think he's got potential. And you know me and causes. I do like a challenge."

[louise_abasi]

"And it's very United Colors of Magic, a sirrn and a witch working together."

[asharpertongue]

"True. But he's powerful. And once he gets over himself, he'll be very useful."

[louise_abasi]

"Remember not to sell him as your sidekick. You're not the sidekick owning type."
She pats her stomach. "I should have quit aftr that sixth pancake."

Lara smiled and nudged Lou. "You should lay here and digest. You've got a couple of hours before we start singing."
