Night Swimming (Open)

It's been a trying day...week...month, if she's honest. The situation with Bach and the missing elders was getting on her last nerve.

She needed a swim.

Pulling her phone from her bag, she sent a text to a few of the more senior members of the siren community:

Night swimming tonight from sundown on the wrecking beach. All welcome. Food and drink provided. Please spread the word.

That should do it.

She send another note to her contacts at the police station so the unaware human element would be steered away. The wards would be up around the beach, discouraging vanilla humans from coming down there but it didn't hurt to have insurance in these matters.

Hopefully the sirens would come, maybe some of the witches. It would be nice to sprawl on the rocks for a few hours with friends.

Lara smiled. "We're not that much hardier than you. We might not get sick the way you do but we're as fragile in other ways. We bleed just as easily."

"if you do tickle us, do we not laugh ..Ru- okay. Of course. There is a myth around your kind, you're not made out of it."

"Not made out of what?"

"Eh, myths. Not my strongest constructed sentence ever."

Lara nods. "There are a lot of them."

She tried to look at her watch. "Not to destroy your hour of teaching, but you said something about singing soon?"

Lara nodded. "When the moon's up."

[louise_abasi]

"Like ..completely? Do I need to be gone as soon as the moon shows?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara chuckled. "Unless you have a charm on you that prevents our influence, then yes. You should."

"Does one exist?"

[asharpertongue]

She nods. "The humans at Watersong wear them but they have to be painted onto your skin by a witch."

[louise_abasi]

"Oh. Paint can stop - how does that work? Is that like ..runes or something?"

[asharpertongue]

"Exactly. It's a painted charm made with special inks. It lasts about a week or so."

[louise_abasi]

"Wow." She beams. "Can I try it once? And have a siren try to flirt with me? I mean, I never really experienced magic before."

[asharpertongue]

"Of course you can. The next time we go swimming. I'll get my girl to part you up."

[louise_abasi]

It doesn't hurt or anything? And I don't have to get ..really naked, right? Just maybe my chest?"

[asharpertongue]

"No. It's stronger over the heart but it can work anywhere."

[louise_abasi]

"Because I don't have the best pair of breasts."

[asharpertongue]

Lara scoffs. "Bullshit."

[louise_abasi]

"And what do you know about my breasts?" She covers them. "Have you been watching me while I'm sleeping?"

[asharpertongue]

"Didn't you know that was one of our superpowers?" Lara grinned.

[louise_abasi]

"Breast knowledge of midnight stalking?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara nods solemnly. "Forgive me. I can't help myself."

"I should let James know that I found the culprit that messes up my plants."

[asharpertongue]

She puts on a mock horrified face. "Oh no! Not James!"
