Night Swimming (Open)

It's been a trying day...week...month, if she's honest. The situation with Bach and the missing elders was getting on her last nerve.

She needed a swim.

Pulling her phone from her bag, she sent a text to a few of the more senior members of the siren community:

Night swimming tonight from sundown on the wrecking beach. All welcome. Food and drink provided. Please spread the word.

That should do it.

She send another note to her contacts at the police station so the unaware human element would be steered away. The wards would be up around the beach, discouraging vanilla humans from coming down there but it didn't hurt to have insurance in these matters.

Hopefully the sirens would come, maybe some of the witches. It would be nice to sprawl on the rocks for a few hours with friends.

"That would depend on what you want to know."

"Because there are forbidden for humans bits?"

[asharpertongue]

"Distasteful bits maybe."

[louise_abasi]

She shivered. "I thought mythical creatures didn't have distasteful bits."

Lara grinned. "We do. And humans don't?"

[louise_abasi]

"That's what makes humans recognizable from the other animals."

[asharpertongue]

Lara snorts a laugh. "Still. I can't tell you if you don't ask questions."

"Because only then you can say I twisted your arm?"

[asharpertongue]

"Plausible deniability is a good thing." Lara grinned. "But there's so much. You have to ask me what you want to know."

[louise_abasi]

"Okay ..do happy siren couples happen? And last, like for ..decades?"

[asharpertongue]

"Of course. My parents were happy for many years. My aunt and her husband were together for many more before his death."

[louise_abasi]

"Do the men always pass first?"

[asharpertongue]

"Not always. If a partner is human then...yes. That partner will pass first as we naturally live longer. If it's two sirens then it's the same as with human couples."

"Those are serious relationships as well? With humans? But how ..we're so fragile compared to you."

[asharpertongue]

Lara smiled. "We're not that much hardier than you. We might not get sick the way you do but we're as fragile in other ways. We bleed just as easily."

[louise_abasi]

"if you do tickle us, do we not laugh ..Ru- okay. Of course. There is a myth around your kind, you're not made out of it."

[asharpertongue]

"Not made out of what?"

[louise_abasi]

"Eh, myths. Not my strongest constructed sentence ever."

[asharpertongue]

Lara nods. "There are a lot of them."

[louise_abasi]

She tried to look at her watch. "Not to destroy your hour of teaching, but you said something about singing soon?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara nodded. "When the moon's up."

[louise_abasi]

"Like ..completely? Do I need to be gone as soon as the moon shows?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara chuckled. "Unless you have a charm on you that prevents our influence, then yes. You should."

"Does one exist?"

[asharpertongue]

She nods. "The humans at Watersong wear them but they have to be painted onto your skin by a witch."
