Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

"Lara!" she squeaks, taking the drink and throwing her arms around her in a tight hug. "Thank you for inviting me. I hope it's okay that I invited Eli and Jason..."

Lara hugs the girl back and smiles. "Not a problem. More the merrier." She says. "And two suitors? Look at you go."

Shaking her head, she giggles. "Lara! They're not my suitors! You're ridiculous," she says, smiling affectionately. "I just figured Jason would enjoy the food, and Eli seems to like parties and dancing so..."

"Well maybe I'll just scare them a little." Lara said playfully.

"Don't you dare!" she laughs. "They'd be so confused, that's so mean!"

"Oh come on! Not even a little?" She flashed her eyes and waved her growing talons at Iris.

"Lara!!" Iris hisses, frantically trying to cover her hands from everyone around. "People are gonna see! What if you get in trouble?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara looked around them and caught the eye of a young siren girl on the edge of her group of friends and flashed her eyes at her. The young siren squealed, drawing the attention of her friends, and concentrated until her eyes glowed a bright green. "Well done, Anya." Lara dialled. "Tell your mother I'll be round to discuss your training. You can start next week."

As the girl and her friends went yelling and cheering for her mother, Lara turned back to Iris. "We're all family here, Iris. There are charms all round the beach to stop anyone with no connection to the supernatural from seeing us. Feel free to relax."

A relieved breath slips out of her and she relaxes. "Oh. Well, maybe still not go all siren-y threatening on them," she grins. "They're good people, cross my heart."

Lara grinned. "I'm sure they are." Looping her arm through Iris's she led the way to the food. "Hungry? I'm starving. I've been so busy I forgot to eat."

Iris tuts softly, following her to the tables. "You need to remember to eat! It's not like there isn't enough food here for you," she shakes her head.

Smiling Lara started filling a plate. "I thought I was supposed to be the Guru here?"

"You might be, but even Gurus can neglect themselves," she grins. "Sometimes they just need a personal nag to bother them about it."

[asharpertongue]

"I'm lucky I have you then." Lara grins back. Having filler her plate she waits for Iris to do the same and then herds them towards a little table. "So whats news, sweetheart?"

"Not much," she shrugs, following her and taking a seat. "I've been practising my powers on my friends. Not the... y'know, sexual ones. But just general powers."

[asharpertongue]

"Really? That's great. Did it help?" Lara asked, genuinely pleased she was getting a grip on her strengths.

[littleredsiren]

"Mhmm!" she beams, proud of herself. "Especially working with Kennedy. Eli and Jason help somewhat but Kennedy's a lot more resistant. I asked her to get me a rock from the shore and she started asking 'why' and 'what kind of rock' instead of just... doing it."

[asharpertongue]

Lara makes an interested noise. "Is she? Naturally resistant people are rare. Did you manage to influence her at all?"

Iris nods, smiling proudly. "Yep. It just took a bit more effort than usual."

[asharpertongue]

"That's impressive." She took a sip of her drink and looked at Iris sidelong. "And Jason? How did he react?"

Iris squints slightly, pretty sure she's not imagining the hinting tone in that question. "He reacted easily... He said it felt weird."

[asharpertongue]

"Weird?" Lara asked, innocently.

[littleredsiren]

"Lara..." she says, frowning slightly. "He just meant it's weird being compelled to do something, even while your brain thinks the thing is silly."

Smiling, Lara nodded. "What did you have him do?"

"Just stuff like making him touch his nose and stand on one foot," she shrugs.
