Wait out the storm in Watersong... (Open!)

Lara watched the weather closely. Looked like it was going to be a rough night. The storm had swept in a little further down the coast and it was headed their way. The bar wasn't completely full but storms either cleared out the patrons or brought them. Judging by the steadily building trickle, this was a 'bring them in' kind of night.



Stepping behind the bar, Lara grinned at Michael. "Might be busy. Better get some vodka on ice...I think snowy cocktails are going to be in demand tonight." Michael only grunted and sighed in a put upon way. She laughed and went back to her stool at the end of the bar looking out over the filling dancefloor.

Lara smiled and nodded. "Well there can be, but i'd hope there wouldn't be in my bar." She said and then cocked her head at the newcomer. "I haven't seen you in here before. Have you been in town long?"

"I have. Just not like -"

It dawned on her. Having stayed at Levi's for a while meant she has been around Lara from time to time as well. "Shit." Lena looked into her glass again. "Not very good at the going out thing, I guess. Meeting people, drinking."

"Ah." Lara said and waved a finger at Michael for a new drink. "Well you'll get the hang of it really quickly. It doesn't take a lot of effort." She winked at the young woman.

"Th- thanks, Lara." She could use her name, right? Everyone knew who Lara was?

"And else I'll just go home early. It will make my brother happier and me probably ..more relaxed. It's a lot of people in here tonight."

Lara smiled and looked around the room. "The bad weather always brings in the crowds. I think it's a nice atmosphere." She said. "Anyway, i'm at a disadvantage. You know me, but I don't know you. Whats your name?"

"Lena, I'm sorry. Nice to meet you."

Last time you saw me I was sleeping on top of your dog, but lets keep that out of this for as long as possible. Or forever. "It's fancy, I'm glad we have this place, so I don't have to leave town to hang around. Easier for getting home as well."

"We like to be convenient." Lara smiled. "You mentioned a brother...is he in town too?"

No bell at all? Lena bristled at that. Not that she wanted to be known as the Girl That Disappeared And Returned but Lara was with a cop. Didn't they talk about th- did Jacob ever go tell the police that she wasn't lost any more? Should she do that herself?

"Yes", she sipped her drink. "We're pretty local. Just not in the spotlights like some families."

Lara nodded. "You're probably right to stay out of it. It's not as much fun as it seems." She said with a grin.

"Do you feel like you're part of it?"

Her nerves were slowly fading away, and Lena thought that even though Lara might be the only one she talked to for the night, it was at least a gorgeous woman she was talking to. Something inside her tinged. She wanted more than talk, very possibly.

Lara shrugged. "On the outskirts I think. I prefer this." She said, gesturing around the room.

"How many people are sirens here?" She was fine with sirens. "Or is that rude to ask?"

Lena was frank and Lara found herself smiling. "About half the bar staff, myself, obviously, and a number of the patrons. And it's not rude to ask...but maybe with less volume."

"Oh!" She lowered her voice to a whisper. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry. I just wanted to make su- I'm not really used to being heard the f- I thought I could find cover with the music", she corrected herself.

[asharpertongue]

"You're fine. No harm done." Lara said, waving a hand. "Everyone here knows the bar is mixed, supernaturally speaking."

Here was Lena's fire proof. "But .."

She leaned in a little, but made sure that she didn't touch Lara. "but like ..sexually speaking as well, right?"

[asharpertongue]

Lara beamed. "I guess that depends on who you speak to, but yes. Sirens are...flexible for the most part. The humans are on a case by case basis."

"Oh - okay. Yes, that makes sense. Of course, yes."

Of course there weren't going to be special corners. She gulped down the last of her glass. "Okay."

"Are you looking for anything in particular or just asking in general?" Lara asked gently.

[meowhistory]

"Not looking at all!", she blurted out. "I -"

This was why she didn't have any friends. Just talking shouldn't be so hard. "I'm just generally interested. And just trying to get eh - familiar. You know."

Lara nodded. "Well if you change your mind, I'm sure I can point you in the right direction." She said with a smile.

It was good that her glass was empty, because else Lena would have choked on her drink. Now she just choked on air, hiccuping while putting her glass down.

"There's like ..directions?"

[asharpertongue]

"No, I meant I could introduce you to some people." She cocked her head at Lena. "You're not really much with social interaction are you?"

[meowhistory]

"Of course."

She said of course too often. "I haven't talked to anyone in four years because of magical reasons." Whatever, this night was ruined anyway. "The only one who knows that I l- " She licked her lips. "That I'm le-" Her breath hitched. "- is my brother. I'm trying to be better."

[asharpertongue]

The light bulb went off in Laras mind. "You're not looking for...masculine company. It's okay. You're among friends here." She grinned. "And I happen to know more than a few like yourself are here tonight."
