Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

His eyes flicker downward at the comment, though he gives a vague nod. The bruises on his face and neck had faded a couple weeks ago, he'd gotten the splints off his fingers over the holiday weekend, and the only physical indication that anything had happened at all are the tiny, barely visible scars near his left temple from the glass that had been shattered against his head.

"I imagine that I do," he finally says with a wry smile, glancing back up to meet her gaze. "The last party I went to was the Coombs ball. I have to say, this is far preferable, though I maybe the slightest bit biased."

"Thank you," he says, and it's sincere. He wouldn't be here if it had just been any party, he's here because he considers Lara a friend and because Levi has done more than Spencer could ever hope to make up for over the past couple years. He isn't sure whether anyone outside of the two of them are even aware of that but when he'd found out Lara and Levi had taken up with each other, Spencer had been surprised but also quite happy for them. They're both good people, they deserve good things and thus, they deserve each other.

He lowers his eyes at the mention of Joel, if only to prevent Lara from seeing the way they light up just from hearing his boyfriend's name. "They're..." He trails off, letting out a soft laugh as he rubs at the back of his neck. "They're really, really good. Eloquent, I know, but that's all your friendly neighborhood librarian can even manage to muster up. Otherwise, there'd be no stopping me."

"We're clearly no good together, we're both supposed to be experts in literature and can't even find it in ourselves to use our words properly," he says with an easy grin, one that hadn't come so easily just a couple months ago. "We must be stopped."

Spencer rolls his good-naturedly, though his cheeks go a bit pink at the implication. The thing is, Lara's not entirely wrong. One of the things he enjoys most about being with Joel is that they can sit in a comfortable silence, simply taking pleasure in being each other's company whether they're reading or eating or just lying together in bed. There's no pressure to fill the gaps with meaningless words because when they do speak, it's important. It's important and private and for each other, and Spencer has never experienced that before; but the sex is incredible, too.

"I suppose I don't disagree," he eventually says with a sheepish laugh. "I've never been in one before, so I can't really compare. Not that anything could."
