Beach BBQ [Open]

Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

OOC: Levi and Lara's friends have been officially invited, but everyone else feel free to wander in at your leisure~.

Tilting his head in acknowledgement of the other’s arrival, he hummed an agreement. “It’s best when the sun is coming up.” He’d always loved the beach and sea in Siren Cove. Part of it was no doubt the siren influence of an affinity to water – but he’d been to a lot of beaches and lakes and this one was still his favourite. He’d once told his mother that he planned to live in it and she had laughed at his dream. For a moment his mind wanders elsewhere, to hot summer days building sandcastles with his Dad or paddling in the waves; splashing Abi with water if she got within a few metres of the waves.

Pulling himself back into the present he briefly looked at the woman standing next to him. “I’m Owen,” he stated, eyes refocusing back on the reflected moon, “I don’t think we’ve met before.”

She's seen it just before sunrise, she's watched the sun coming up over the water, she's watched it going down, she's sat on the beach at midday because this truly is the place she feels more comfortable. And he's right. This place is as close to perfect as she imagines any single place can get just as the sun is rising and she nods her agreement, giving him a smile as he glances over.

"April," she answers. "And we haven't. I'm still what you'd call fairly new to town." It's been a few weeks now, but she still very much thinks of herself as an outsider and that isn't likely to change.

Owen couldn’t help smiling a little at her referring to herself as new to town. There were definitely a lot of faces he didn’t recognise, which seemed surprising and a little terrifying since it had only been a year. With an amused huff of air he added, “Well, I’ve been away myself, so I can’t say I’d be too familiar if you had been here a little while. Anyway, pleasure to meet you April. Are you at least starting to figure out where everything is?”

He knew Siren Cove wasn’t actually that big a town, but he knew some people moved from smaller places. His family for instance came from a tiny fishing town, of which he’d never seen and probably never would.

"I am," she says with a smile, thinking of all the people who have helped her, even perhaps inadvertently, over the past several weeks. She's been told by some that Siren Cove isn't exactly a friendly town and while she doesn't know well enough to know everyone's intentions, it's certainly helpful, if nothing else.

"Everyone has been very kind," she says. "Although every time I say that to someone, they seem surprised by it, so I'm still waiting to see someone's darker side."
