Levi's idea for a beach party had been a good one. After the past few weeks they both needed to blow off a little steam and Lara had taken to the idea like the proverbial siren to water, inviting all her employees and friends. Levi had put the word out at the police station and among his closer friends so between them a decent crowd was forming.

The tables lining the beach were piled high with food and drink, a DJ was already in full swing and people were drifting over to the large bonfire for warmth as the chill started to cut through the summer evening. A few of the Heart of Gold employees had brought their kids along for the festivities and a friend of Lara's was performing little glamours and tricks to keep them entertained. Large clusters of huge pillows were dotted about the beach just a little way from Levi's house and lanterns and firelight bathed the whole area in a warm glow.

Maybe Lara had taken it a little far but she liked to treat her friends and everyone could use a little R&R.

Levi knew that Lara was there even before she wrapped her arms around him. Even with all the other people here and how busy it was he could recognize the presence of her mind. He thought maybe it was getting easier, too, that it hurt slightly less to have her think at him. She'd certainly been doing enough thinking at him at the party.

"You went... big?" he said, putting an arm around her. "I wouldn't say too big. I'd never say that."

Grinning, she went up on her toes to kiss him. "Everyone seems to be having fun. And I've been threatened already. Always the sign of a good party."

"Everyone is having fun. Even the people who never seem to, so I think you did good," he said, kissing her back. Even if she did terrible Levi would probably have told her she did good. If just to give her a hard time.

"And you've been threatened too? So have I. Who threatened you?"

"Alex. It was subtle but still. I give her points for attempting to intimidate her matriarch, even if I did have to put her in her place a little." She grinned cheekily. "Who threatened you?"

"Did she threaten to hurt you if you broke my heart? Because that is... actually really sweet of her and I might have to buy her flowers," he said, grinning a bit. Levi could easily see how Alex could consider him 'one of hers'.

"And Iris did. She did a pretty good job of it too, you should congratulate her."

"You don't reward one of my sirens for being aggressive towards her matriarch." She grumbled for the look of the thing. "But you can buy her a coffee for being a good friend."

She raised her eyebrows and grinned at the mention of Iris's name. "Bless her soul. She's a good girl. I hope you were suitably terrified?"

"I didn't know she was a siren," he said, arching an eyebrow. He'd never tell, he'd certainly never mention it to Alex, but honestly it didn't really surprise him. She fit the traditional definition of one.

"I was very, very afraid."

Groaning dramatically, Lara let her head fall forward onto his shoulder. "What is it about you that keeps me spilling secrets?"

"Because you know I won't spill them," Levi said, petting her hair soothingly. After all, he'd kept his own secret for nearly thirty years. He could keep it to himself that Alex was a siren.

"Thanks. I'm...I'm going to have to get better at resisting you." She said poking his ribs.

"I didn't even ask you or anything!" he said with a laugh, squirming away from her for a bit. That's one of the things he loved about Lara, the playfulness that she can show.

"You just volunteered it."

"You're easy to confide in! Using your detective skills on me." Lara huffs, hiding a smile.

"Yes, mentioning a colleagues name and you just blab all about them," he said, pulling her back close to give her another hug. She was ridiculous but he loved her all the same. "Can I just rattle off a bunch of names and see what you divulge?"

Lara leaned up to kiss him, pressing him back against a convenient bar. "You could try." Sneaking a hand under his shirt between them, she grinned. "Of course, I could just make you tell me."

"You could, but I don't have any good secrets like you do," he said, kissing her back as she pressed up against him, fingers running along his stomach.

Laughing she shook her head. "I don't believe that for a second. Everyone has something in their closet."

"I have superhero costumes, but you already knew that," he said, squirming against her hands a bit.
