Long story short, a lovelorn fan committed suicide (in front of her and lots of red carpet cameras) when he couldn't be with her and the guilt drove her to hard-partying and rehab. She just got out which is why she returned. The whole ordeal has been heavily covered in both tabloids and respectable publications, so its likely Lara has heard.
