"Always," he answers before Spencer kisses him and it's such a small thing, just a promise to give him his cardigan when he gets cold, but it means so much more than that. He really is more than happy to promise Spencer any kind of always, anything at all that he wants and he's never thought he'd say such a thing to anyone. It feels a lot easier than he ever thought it would and he knows that has little to do with the words themselves and everything to do with Spencer. Even in the few weeks they've been together, Joel knows he's made a lot of promises and he intends on keeping every single one of them. There's nothing to stop him, there's nothing he'll let get in the way of this.
A second later, though, he laughs, pulling back a little to look at Spencer with a bright smile. "Is that what my life is going to be from now on? Only the promise of taking our clothes off is going to get you to agree to do things?" He's teasing, but if that's what it takes, he certainly thinks he can live with it. And those are more promises he'll be more than happy to deliver on, even if the thought of tugging Spencer naked into the ocean not all that far from a party makes him a little nervous. While everything they've done together so far has been more than satisfying, it's also mostly been incredibly private, with the exception of Spencer's incredibly explicit talk in the car the other day. Even that, though, is a fair step down from swimming naked with people not all that far away. Joel knows such a thing won't remain completely innocent.
"But it does seem like a good idea," he agrees. "I'm convinced that's the entire purpose of this party. Likely the only reason they arranged to hold it in the first place, don't you think?" He's going to need a little more whiskey if this is something that's going to happen and he shifts a little in the circle of Spencer's arms, reaching over to pour another finger's width into the cup Spencer has just put down. He picks it up, downs the drink, then shakes his head as the whiskey warms his throat, his chest, then finally his stomach. It's not nearly enough to get him drunk, but he can feel himself working toward a little bit of a buzz and that's good enough for the night ahead.
