There's something about the way Joel's looking at him that gives Spencer pause, there's an intensity about it that isn't unrecognizable but still makes him wonder. Spencer searches Joel's eyes for what's probably a beat too long but it only serves a reminder of just how important this man is to him. It's like the noise of the crowd has faded, the rest of the beach is forgotten in this moment, and Spencer has a thought that's been floating through his mind in so many different variations already--he'd be happy to spend the rest of his life with Joel. I'll be there, Joel had said just a couple minutes ago, and Spencer doesn't think there's anything that could keep him from Joel's side.
He shakes himself from his thoughts, knowing they won't be going anywhere, and lets his smile broaden as Joel leans back, offering a better view in the flickering of the bonfire flames. He hadn't been lying, Joel really does look perfect, as always; but it's not often that his boyfriend walks around barefoot with the cuffs of his jeans rolled up, and Spencer has to admit that he very much likes seeing Joel's casual look get that much more casual. "Will you offer me your cardigan when I get cold?" he teases, bunching his fist in Joel's shirt and pulling him back in for another kiss.
But then Joel's murmuring in his ear about promises and swimming and how a lack of proper attire doesn't have to stop them, and he can't stop the low, needy growl that escapes his throat. He closes his eyes, nuzzling his cheek against Joel's, appreciating the feel of Joel's beard over his skin, and flattens his palm out over his boyfriend's chest. "You're right, you did promise me," he agrees with a slight nod. "It suddenly seems like such a good idea."
