Les is trying super hard not to think about Lara's party as a work function because the idea of that sounds so grown-up and boring and something other people's parent's did. Something Les certainly didn't do. Except it was a beach party being thrown by his boss, and he knew Lara had invited everyone who worked for her---Michael, the crew at Watersong and everyone at Heart of Gold---so technically people he worked with were going to be there. Still he continued to imagine it just being any other barbecue on the beach, he dons his normal beach attire and flip-flops for the occasion. When he and Corry arrive, it even looks like any other town party, maybe a little more extravagant but he suspects that's Lara's doing, seeing as how Michael had been running around frazzled this entire week making arrangements. Not only is everyone Lara invited there, but other people from town too. He guesses people that work at the police station since it was some type of joint effort between Lara and this guy Levi, which now that Les is there scoping out out the party, he thinks to himself this is certainly going to be an interesting mix of people...
As he approaches the food table, meaning to grab a plate of food for Corry and obviously himself, he is just glad Corry decided to come with him. Not only was he happy to see her still willing to brave the outside world, but he just liked having her around. They were fairing much better as of late, after their talk on the beach. He starts grabbing things from the table, filling his plate quickly with everything that looks good, namely a pile of sliced pickles that he guesses is probably meant for the hamburgers...
Once he has food, he looks around trying to spot where Corry scurried off too.
